Pacers officially introduce Broad Ripple High School and IUPUI star George Hill to media
George Hill made his return home to a nice ovation at Conseco Fieldhouse today.
President Larry Bird and general manager David Morway introduced Hill, acquired from the San Antonio Spurs last week, to about 125 fans and Pacers employees inside the entry pavilion of the fieldhouse.
“It’s been a long time coming,”
Morway said. “We’ve been trying for a couple of years to bring George home. He’s going to fit in perfect with the rest of our team.”
Hill had friends and family members in attendance sitting in the second row of the news conference. He starred at Broad Ripple High School and IUPUI before being drafted by the Spurs in the first round in 2008.
The Pacers acquired Hill from the Spurs for draft picks Kawhi Leonard (No. 15 overall) and Davis Bertans (No. 42) and the rights to Erazem Lorbek, who has been in Europe since 2005.
“I’m sure excited to be here,”
Hill said. “I want to basically say thanks to David Morway and Larry Bird. This has always been a dream of mine to play for my hometown team.”
