LAWRENCE | Kansas sophomore guard Brandon Rush started hot Saturday night to lead the Jayhawks 30-22 at halftime over Rhode Island.
Within the opening two minutes, Rush connected on two three-pointers and added a slam dunk to give KU an 11-4 advantage. Brandon Rush has 10 points at the break but his early outpouring wasn’t enough for the No. 9 Jayhawks to build a blowout.
Kansas still must be in the giving spirit, as the Jayhawks seemingly had the awful-shooting Rams down and out. Rhode Island couldn’t defend against Kansas’ inside lobs, surrendering three in the half. As soft as the defense was, the offense didn’t show much mettle as the Rams allowed nearly 8 minutes to expire between points. But the generous Jayhawks let up in the final 2 minutes, giving up an 8-0 run to close the first half.
