Final Four of Georgetown, UCLA, Florida, Texas A&M
The crystal ball said in January that North Carolina would win the men's national title and the Final Four would be the Tar Heels, Florida, Pittsburgh and Kansas.
That Final Four is not possible with Pitt and Kansas in the same bracket.
So, the new Final Four might be something like this: Georgetown to upset Texas, who upset North Carolina, in the East Rutherford Region; Texas A&M to conquer Ohio State in the San Antonio Region; Florida to roll in the St. Louis Region; and UCLA to best Kansas in the San Jose Region.
First-round upsets could be prevalent in this year's tourney.
The crystal ball sees three No. 12 seeds winning - Old Dominion over Butler, Illinois over Virginia Tech and Arkansas over Southern Cal.
The prognosticator even sees Illinois upending No. 4 Southern Illinois in the second round.
While no No. 11s were picked to upend No. 6s, No. 10-seed Georgia Tech should knock off No. 7 UNLV.
As far as No. 9s vs. No. 8s, the crystal ball normally picks No. 9s. However, this year, look for two No.8s (Kentucky and Arizona) and two No. 9s (Michigan State and Xavier) to come out on top.
In the second round, the crystal ball likes Notre Dame (over Oregon), previously-mentioned Illinois (vs. Southern Illinois), Duke (vs. Pittsburgh), Vanderbilt (against Washington State) and Nevada (downing Memphis) to advance with Tennessee to clip Virginia making six non-top four seeds in the Sweet 16.
The Cats and Louisville Cards appear to both be destined for 1-1 post-seasons. However, don't be surprised if either loses in the first round or plays their second-round foes (probably Kansas and Texas A&M) close.
In the Elite Eight, other than the Texas upset of UNC, the crystal ball sees some normality.
In the regional championship games, look for UCLA to knock off top-seed Kansas and Texas A&M to best the Buckeyes.
In Final Four weekend, the Gators' chance at repeating is ruined by UCLA while Georgetown ends the Aggies' run.
The national title game will see the Hoyas' inside game a little too much for the Bruins.
Look for North Carolina to win the women's NCAA Tournament and all four No. 1 seeds (UNC plus Tennessee, Duke and Connecticut) making it to the Final Four. Louisville's women should go 1-1 with a win over Brigham Young before being eliminated by Arizona State.
Also, watch for Massachusetts and Kentucky to win the men's and women's NIT versions.
Lastly, you would probably be better off to go opposite my picks since this very bad prognosticator doesn't hit too many right.
Strange stat of the week: Adair County High School's boys' basketball team shot 65 free throws in its three Fifth Region Tournament games at Central Hardin while the three Indian opponents (LaRue County 0, Bardstown 6 and John Hardin 2) shot only eight total.
It appears the Indians like the tooting done by the Fourth Region officials. The Fourth and Fifth Region officials swapped for the regional tourneys with the Fourth Region referees, also calling girls' games at Green County and the Fifth Region stripes working the girls' and boys' Fourth Region Tournaments at Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
